Founded in 1992, Central Registration & Identification Scheme (CRiS) is the UK’s national register for touring caravan owners. Becoming a member of CRiS can not only deter, but also prevent caravan theft, as well as protecting potential buyers from purchasing from an illegitimate owner or even unwittingly choosing a caravan with outstanding finance.
Similar to the DVLA, CRiS is recognised by the regulatory bodies, insurance companies and government organisations such as the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) and the Department for Transport (DFT).
With approximately 800,000 touring caravans in the UK, the vast majority of which are already registered, CRiS were keen to have the latest security features available and the specialist team at Orion were able to make recommendations over and above the existing hologram, as well as improving the service to CRiS’s existing and future customers.

Once registered, you will receive your registration document and membership card, each featuring covert security features and your unique QR code which links securely to the keeper’s details and that of the touring caravan registered. The security enhancements recommended by Orion have resulted in CRiS being the most secure vehicle registration scheme in the UK.
Working closely with the police means that, in the unlikely event of theft, registered owners stand a greater chance of their touring caravan being recovered and returned to its rightful owner. Using QR code readers provided by CRiS, the police are quickly able to identify the registered owner’s details from the caravan’s unique Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) which is held securely on CRiS’s database.
There are other benefits of registering with CRiS – some insurance companies require CRiS registration before processing a claim, plus manufacturers can also quickly identify who they need to contact in the event of a product recall or warranty expiry.
